Things have been low key around here for this year's winter break. I visited my parents for a few days before Christmas, George visited his mom for week right at Christmas time, and the three girls have been catching up on sleep after final exams.
Vy and Anh have started part-time temporary jobs at MU's bookstore. Anh is stocking texts and Vy will be working as a cashier. They are part of the temporary team of employees who will help with the busy time of students getting texts and supplies for the new semester.
Gahee is the only one having a bit of adventure. She and some friends are traveling to Florida with stops in Memphis, Tennessee, and Atlanta, Georgia. At the start of her journey, I called Gahee and told her some great news: she received a letter of acceptance to the University of Missouri. She's been taking some core courses at our community college and will now transfer to MU. I'm curious about her class schedule for the spring semester. I bet she'll have some early morning classes.
So we now have 3 MU Tigers staying with us. All will be very busy ladies this coming semester.
A friend of mine had a New Year's Eve gathering at her place and we all went. We enjoyed some snacks and conversation, and Gahee met a sweet large standard poodle.
This gathering was not meant to be a late night celebration. Everyone left around 9 or so. The older folks settled in at home. The younger folks went out to greet the new year.
Monday, January 9, George and I start teaching classes again at the community college. The girls don't begin classes at MU until January 17.
Meanwhile, we are enjoying unseasonably warm weather for the Midwest. January is usually cold and snowy. Lately we've had spring-like weather and people are walking around without coats; some are sporting shorts and flipflops. The week ahead looks like it will be cooler, but still much warmer than what we usually experience at this time of year. Of course, Vy and Anh are looking forward to experiencing a real snowfall/snow storm. With this kind of weather, some of us are wondering if we'll see any snow at all this winter. Gahee and I love it, so we're hoping for some snow. George is the only one who starts groaning and complaining when the weather gets cold and snowy.
